Tyke Maroon Team - Lambeth Tyke Gene Harrington Champions!
Submitted By Brad Esler on Monday, January 28, 2019
The Lambeth Tyke Maroon team competed in their first away tournament of their young careers in Niagara Falls, NY this past weekend. This was an exciting event as they had a chance to play against some stronger competition from the GTA,  Buffalo, NY and Cleveland, Ohio. The highlight was an outdoor game at Riverworks Park which was a memorable experience in -15 conditions.

The three game round robin was exciting and the boys finished 3-0, outscoring their opponents 30 -15. Our first game was the toughest test with the boys trailing a bigger Richmond Hill team by 2 goals most of the game. They tied it up with under 4 minutes left to play and scored the winner with .09 seconds left. Finishing on top of the round robin set us up for a semi-final match with the Vaughan Rangers. The boys came out flying and won 10-3. The final was against the Cleveland Mentors which was made up of a few 2011's and a few more 2010 boys. These boys were taller and stronger but our boys came out strong and fast, showing more skill. They took full control of the puck, not allowing a single shot on their net for the first four minutes. Cleveland did jump out to a quick 2-0 lead before the halfway mark but once again this group of 8 boys dug deep and lead 4 - 2 at the end of the period. The Cleveland goalie stood 5 feet tall in a 4 x 3 Tyke hockey net and only allowed 7 goals in the round robin, but our boys found ways to beat him and came out victorious, with a nailing biting victory of 7 - 6.

Coach Mike and I are proud of all the hard work and dedication these boys have put in this year, making almost every practice and game. As coaches, we have tried to instill that TEAM stands for "TOGETHER EVERYONE ACHIEVES MORE" all season and the boys truly personified this all weekend.

A special thank you to all the hockey moms for the cool swag bags for the boys, making sure their first BIG tournament was a memorable one.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
