Shamrock Streak Hits a Dozen
The Lambeth novice B boys won a pair of outings last week to improve to 12-0 in the Shamrock league.  A tidy 6-2 win over the St. Thomas Stars was coupled with perhaps the strangest win this sports-writer has ever seen, as the boys won in Thamesford 9-2.  Last Tuesday the always dangerous Stars visited, and for two periods went toe to toe with the strong skating Lambeth squad.

The young guns of Man-beast Nelson and Zig-Zag Reif got things going with a goal by Nelson, assisted by Reif.  St.Thomas kept swarming the Lancers who had a hard time getting anything going being put under constant pressure.  A goal by Dylan Dundas, assisted by linemates Moir and Pigeon had Lambeth up 2-1 in the second only to be answered by the Stars leaving the score 2-2 after 2. (Please allow myself to introduce myself).  Strength and Conditioning coach Pudge Miller (himself a modern miracle of muscle) stated after the game, "the goals weren't Ty's fault, we simply allowed too many St. Thomas players wacks at the puck after the initial save.  I guess it's back to squats and deadlifts for the defence."  The third period saw Lambeth move the puck much better and the defence of Slota, Milne, Basilio, Smale and Kelly buckle down.  Two goals by Parker Pigeon (assisted by Moir and Basilio) along with two by Moir (assisted by Reif and Charlie Graham) had Lambeth up 6-2 and the party started.
Last Saturday was much more interesting loyal readership.  This reporter was hunkered down, tweed jacket and scarf, hot tea and notebook in hand waiting for the tilt between Thamesford and Lambeth to begin at the local, and full of ambience, Thamesford arena.  Much to my surprise, 5 minutes before game time most of the Lambeth squad had yet to arrive, thinking the 12 o'clock game time to be at 1.  Lucky enough for Lambeth the Smale family loves a tasty out of town brunch and being in Thamesford early, had notified, through panicked and expletive filled phone calls, each family of the mix up.  Cue the Daytona "401" 500.  As coach Dundas later stated, "Most of the team arrived on time thanks to reaching speeds exceeding 150 km per hour, except for Dave Graham who passed us like we were standing still."  At game time the Lambeth squad had 5 on the bench with forward Matteo Santagapita in net (using a Turk Broda goalie stick his dad had stolen from the Thamesford trophy case).  Each early whistle had more and more Lambeth players entering the fray in varying degrees of readiness, mismatched socks being a common sight.  At one point a peanut butter and jam sandwich may or may not have fallen out of Isaac Irwin's hockey pants but I may have been caught up in the confusion.  Lambeth's goalie was rumored to be in Thedford (By Odin's raven, Thedford!?) but this reporter can only dismiss that as rumour and heresay because who in their right mind would mix up Thamesford and Thedford.  The Great Wall of Ty-na did eventually make it, albeit wearing no jock and a pair of crisp blue jeans underneath his goalie pads (in the third period).  Lambeth did win 9-2, with Matteo playing a brave and solid game between the pipes for 1 and 3/4 of a period.  It was a little funny to this reporter that Lambeth fully warmed up Santagapita before the game with many high rising pucks peppering the make shift goalie.  It was another solid outing for all the boys, the stats going as follows:  Simon Moir 1 goal, 2 assists, Parker Pigeon HAT TRICK!, Cameron Reif HAT TRICK plus an assist (Grandpa should come to all games), Noah Nelson 1 goal, Charlie Graham 1 goal, other assists went to Santagapita (ghosts of Grant Fuhr!), Dylan Dundas, Cole Smale, Matt Milne and Sam Basilio.  Fan of the game goes to the Smales, without your dedication to bacon and eggs, the streak would have been done at 10.
