The OMHA Novice B Finals.  The games were hard fought.  They were exciting.  They had national anthems, pipe bands, packed arenas, goal horns and an old man music duo who couldn't get plugged in.  Did I mention great hockey and heart-wrenching comebacks?  They also had a deserving winner in Ingersoll and a valiant runner up in our Lancers, who stayed in every game and played their guts out.  Speaking of guts out, the coaches, management, parents and fans should also be proud of all their efforts and energy.

But enough small talk loyal readership, for although you will feel a small part of your soul missing, merryment and mirth escaping you, now the hockey season is done, do not succumb.  For gather round the hearth, gather ye rosebuds while ye may and sip on a cup of mulled wine and enjoy. Game one was a slow starting affair for the Lancer boys.  The fans were muted, the team stalled and the concession was closed!  Ingersoll jumped out to a 4-1 lead, Lambeth's only marker coming from Charlie Graham with assists going to Simon Moir and Parker Pigeon.  But cue the comeback!  Lambeth rode on the hot stick of up and coming defenseman Sam "the prodigy" Basilio who set up two meat grinding goals from Josh Troop and Isaac "the scud missile (lots of damage, you just don't know where)" Irwin.  A flurry of a finish, Lambeth stormed the Ingersoll net and Parker Pigeon was sprung loose on a partial breakaway.  I personally blame his father for not properly leveling the family's backyard rink for the shot that went wide, and in no way Parker who hammered it (another 7 yards of dirt would have helped).  The game ended 5-3.
Game 2 was on to the bustling, vibrant hamlet of Ingersoll.  With an arena nestled in the lovely downtown, a meandering creek and a curious and intelligent German shepherd dog who solves small community problems roaming around, Ingersoll looked to lull Lambeth into a false sense of security.  But as Will Ferrell stated at this year's Golden Globes...you get outta here Ingersoll!  Please see the link provided,  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0G2jMY3j3mM.  Lambeth jumped out to a 4-2 lead thanks to a hat trick from Noah Nelson and a wraparound beauty from Charlie Graham.  Nelson's third goal of the game was a bar down missile that had fans gasping (especially Nevin).  Assists on those goals went to Cameron Reif, Simon Moir and Isaac Irwin.  The lead was narrowed to 4-3 before Parker Pigeon scored the eventual game winner from his backside, wearing an Ingersoll defender like a cheap suit.  The lead was cut to 5-4 and the great wall of Ty-na show was on.  Glove save after glove save kept Lambeth in the lead.  The finest was a howitzer that Ty casually snagged, then even more casually handed to the referee like a child hands the creepy art teacher the Tim Horton's gift card their mom made them get for a Christmas present.  Lambeth hung on, 5-4.
Game three was the most back and forth of the series, both teams trading goals throughout the contest. Josh Troop had 2 early goals, Nelson scored the third and Pigeon the fourth.  The trouble was Ingersoll was also scoring at a rapid pace and led 5-4 late in the third.  Charlie "big play" Graham capped off a four point night with the tying goal and it was off to overtime.  Unfortunately Ingersoll's Davin Gray spoiled the party with a breakaway beauty.  Assists on the night went to Cameron Reif (with 2), Logan Slota, Simon Moir, Parker Pigeon, Josh Troop and Cole Smale.
Game four ended the party, but not the fun.  Yes it was a dominant 5-1 win for Ingersoll and congratulations to them on their win and the game's championship atmosphere.  Series MVP in my book (yes the tattered and torn Little Kitty notepad that now looks like the dead sea scrolls) was The great wall of Ty-na who played lights out all series.  And as we drove out of Ingersoll, a peppy yet troubled German Shepherd in our rear view mirrors, a song echoed in our minds....."maybe tomorrow I'll want to settle down, until tomorrow I'll just keep moving on."
