Novice C Girls Win WOGHL Div II Finals ! !
It came down to the last game, on the last weekend . . . but the girls got it done!

After winning game 1 in Lambton by a score of 3 to 1, the series came back to Lambeth for two games.  With a heavy emphasis on defense by both teams, the teams tied the remaining two games with identical scores of 1 to 1.  Due to our big first game win, we won the overall series 4 points to 2.

Today's final featured multiple breakaways (for both teams), heavy puck pressure and lots of physical play.  After going down 1 - 0 early in the first period, the girls cranked it up a notch and controlled most of the play going forward.  Thanks to our hard work, composure and determination . . .  Lambton took two tripping penalties and one for hooking to give the Lancers plenty of power play opportunities.  We finally converted late in the game, just a few seconds after our final man advantage had expired.  Alexis Slota found the back of the net with helpers from Kira Orr and AJ Smit.  From there, the girls weathered the storm for the final four minutes.  Morgan Aarts made the save of the game by stoning a Lambton Attack player on a breakaway in the final minute.

Special recognition for Sasha Carr and Morgan Aarts, who were awesome in the net (and out of the net) during the entire playoffs.  They kept us in every game, and played a major role on the team when playing "out".

A big congratulations to the girls for working hard in practice, and in all of our games down the stretch.  For the record, our "WOGHL record" was 4-1-4 in the playoffs.  Not too many teams can say they lost only one game out of nine during the second season.

Looking forward to provincials next weekend - go get them Champs!
