The End of the 2018-2019 Season
Submitted By Christa Karr on Monday, April 8, 2019
With the end of 2018-2019 season, we can all look back with great pride! All teams should be very proud of not only their accomplishments, but the way they were achieved. Overall, we have had a great season with many teams being successful in their play downs, playoffs or in tournaments. We had an outstanding group of coaches and support staff who helped to ensure that all players enjoyed their Lambeth Minor Hockey experience.

*** NOTE *** MHAL Annual General Meeting (AGM) Venue has changed:

7pm Monday, May 13th
at L'Arche Centre - 4448 Colonel Talbot Rd (at Sunray Ave.)

Parents, throughout the season you made sacrifices of your time, money, and energy to ensure you and your child(ren) would have a positive impact on their team, and for that we thank you. Your child(ren) represented more than just themselves and your family at practice, in games and on road trips; they represented Lambeth Minor Hockey, and they did it well! As an Association, we can look back with great pride on each of our teams’ successes and growth this season.

Season Highlights by Division

Boys Rep

Our Novice Rep team captured the Red Hats and won the OMHA championship this season, Collingwood, South Huron, Strathroy, Ingersoll, Regional Silver Stick, International Silver Stick Finalists, and were League A Champions.  The Atom Rep team won Nations Cup, Delhi and Aylmer tournaments.  The Atom AE team won Tillsonburg and captured the International Silver stick title.  The Peewee Rep team were OMHA Finalists taking it to the wire and losing in game 5 in overtime, they also won the Collingwood and South Huron tournaments.  The Peewee AE team won the Lincoln tournament.  Bantam Rep team won Collingwood, Nations Cup, Regional Silver Stick and were International Silver Stick Finalists.  The Midget rep team were League finalists.

Local League

All Local League teams attended two or more tournaments this season with Novice LL as tournament Champions in two of their tournaments, and a Finalist in their third tournament. Novice LL finished 2nd in the regular season and 2nd in the Championship series. Atom LL1 earned a Silver Medal at the Motown cup in Detroit and won their Consolation series. Atom LL2 participated in two tournaments this season. Peewee LL2 were Finalists at the John Henry Tournament in Strathroy. Both Peewee LL teams made it to the Championship rounds in their series. Bantam LL were tournament Champions at the John Henry Tournament in Strathroy, placed 2nd in the St. Mary’s LL tournament, and 3rd at the Clinton Optimist Bantam Tournament.

Girls

Another successful Girl’s hockey season. We fielded 7 teams: 3 C-level teams playing in WOGHL and 4 B-level teams playing in LLFL. Our Novices showed great improvement and were two wins away from a division title.   Atom B team had a very respectful season competing with everyone they faced. They fell just short in every tournament they entered winning 4 silver medals. PW C & Bantam C teams won their respective division titles. The PW B team won their Division and won the overall league Championship Weekend Title (53 teams). They also won 3 Golds at tournaments throughout season.  Our Bantam B team earned a spot at Championship Weekend (top 5 overall). They also won a tournament in Buffalo.  The Midget team had a very fun year and were very competitive in a very tough division. They battled injuries all year and fell just short of a chance at Provincials.  PW B, Bantam C and Bantam B, all earned a spot to represent MHAL at OWHA Provincials April 5-7.

End of Season Housekeeping

All jerseys must be washed and collected back to your Head Coach to be handed in as a set. Once all the equipment is handed in the volunteer cheques will be handed out. For any players in Atom or above that need permission to skate forms or Non registered passport forms,  you must contact the Rep Convenor, Registrar or President prior to tryouts to have them signed. This also applies to Girls if they are trying out in another Centre.

Convenors will be having exit interviews with all coaches to go through our parent feedback surveys. Thanks to all of you that filled one out. As one season ends, we begin planning for another to begin, our Annual General Meeting will be held on Monday, May 13 at 7pm in the L'Arche Centre - 4448 Colonel Talbot Rd (at Sunray Rd).

Next Season

Registration

Registration will start April 8 with our early bird ending May 15.   New this year we will be taking a $50 deposit to hold your spot with the rest of registration coming off your credit card in three installments: July 1st, August 1st and September 1st.  Registration closes on June 15 after which fees increase by $100 and will be based on availability only.  We need these registration numbers to help secure our ice with the city and to plan the size and number of teams.

Volunteers

We need to have all coaching applications in for Boys Competitive by May 3th . Local League and AE Coaches are encouraged to complete the application process however, AE coaches will not be selected until after the competitive try-outs are completed. Rep and Girls Coaches that are chosen for an interview will be contacted by the Convenor and given their time to speak with the selection committee.  If you are unsure where your child might land, apply anyway and we won't hold you to that team if your child makes the team above.

If you plan to volunteer in any capacity, a Police Check is required. Please consider doing this now as there is often a back log in September. The link below will take you to the on-line application form. For individuals wanting to apply directly the London Police Station or an OPP office, please contact the appropriate Convenor for a letter.

At the Executive Level, we are looking to fill the Secretary position and a Novice and Below Program Coordinator. We would like these individuals to start now, so that they can be trained and work along with our current volunteers. We would also like anyone else that thinks they may want to be a part of the Executive to come forward and we can find jobs to fill within the organization to lighten the loads of Convenors.

This entire Association is run by volunteers and we can’t thank each and everyone one of you enough.  The Executive would like to extend a special thank you to Paul Santagapita for his ten years on the Executive.  Paul’s two year term as President is over this season. Before being the President Paul was the Ice Convenor.  These two roles are by far the most time demanding on the Executive. In addition to being on the Executive, over the years Paul was also on the bench as a Manager, Trainer, and Assistant Coach for both Boys Rep and Girls Hockey. Paul has a tremendous knowledge about OMHA and OWHA, holding a rich background and roots in Lambeth Minor Hockey.  Thank you Paul for the time, energy, and spirit you have donated to Lambeth Minor Hockey.

Lastly, thanks to all players and parents for your participation in Lambeth Minor Hockey. Enjoy the off-season Lancers and we look forward to seeing everyone back in the fall.

Sincerely,

Paul Santagapita President

Christa Karr Vice President
