Closing Remarks for 2019-2020 Hockey Season

Dear Lancer Families,

We hope you are managing during this incredibly challenging time as the world learns to navigate the Coronavirus.  It is within these unprecedented times we found ourselves at an abrupt end to 2019-2020 season. While it is difficult to let go of the hope of celebrating the winning of the prestigious Red Hats, Provincial Championships, and Division Finalists, the health, safety, and well-being of not only our hockey community but our extended friends and families should be our primary concern.  The OMHA has created a web link with information about Covid-19 and the implications to hockey programs.  Feel free to click on the link - OMHA.net/COVID-19 for further information.

All teams should be very proud of not only their accomplishments but the manner in which they were achieved. Overall, we have had a great season with many teams being successful in their play downs, playoffs or in tournaments.  We had an outstanding group of coaches and support staff who helped to ensure that all players enjoyed their Lambeth Minor Hockey experience. As an Association, we can look back with great pride on each of our teams’ successes and growth this season.

Season Highlights by Division

The Novice Major team went undefeated throughout the season and were very successful in all their tournaments. They challenged themselves playing in an AAA tournament, losing in the finals.  Congratulations to our Peewee Rep team that made it to the OMHA championship this season and were International SilverStick Finalists.  Both our Peewee AE and Midget Rep teams made it to their league finals. The Midget Rep team were also International SilverStick Finalists

In the Girls Division, both the Midget B and C Girls teams and the Bantam B Girls team were headed to Provincials. The Bantam Bs also earned a spot at the Championship weekend.

Our Local League teams have attended several tournaments this season with our Major Novice LL team as tournament Champions in their two tournaments. Atom Maroon won their Consolation Series. Our Peewee Maroon and Peewee White teams represented Lambeth well in several tournaments this season and fought hard during their playoff rounds. Bantam White participated in several tournaments, were runners-up in Silver Stick, finished 1st in the East Division and 3rd overall in the "A" Division. Bantam Maroon also participated in several tournaments, won their first round of playoffs, and were one win away from winning their Championship Series before the season ended.

End of Season Housekeeping

Equipment

At this time all City of London Facilities are closed and we do not have access to our Equipment Room at the arena.  Parents or Coaches who currently have the jerseys, could you kindly remove the name bars, wash, and store for us in the interim. In order to avoid mold growth, please ensure the jerseys are completely dry before putting in the garment bags.

For families with goalie equipment, please also hold onto the gear until the time is appropriate to return to the Coach.  The Equipment Manager will let Coaches know the date equipment can be returned, at this time it is unknown. Volunteer refund cheques will be given to each Coach once all equipment has been returned.

Permission to Skate Forms

For any players in Atom or above that require a permission to skate or Non-registered passport form, they must be signed by the Rep Convenor.  Rob Mugford will post to the website a time and place when he will be available to do so, however, this will not be happening during social distancing.  Girls will require their form to be signed by the Girls Convenor if they are trying-out in another Centre.

Try-Outs

Spring try-outs will not take place for Girls Hockey this year. Until direction is given from OWHA and OMHA, there is not a definitive time frame for Girls try-outs or how Boys try-outs will work in the fall.  New this coming season is the Player Pathway for Atom which will have these players with different tryout parameters than divisions above them.

Coaches Interviews

As with everything else, Coaches interviews are on hold as well.  If you have haven’t already done so, please take a moment to fill out the Parent Survey which is available on the website or you can use the link below.

2019-2020 MHAL ParentSurvey

We have received all Girls Coaching applications and Boys Competitive applications are required by April 30th Local League and AE Coaches are encouraged to complete the application, however, coaches will not be selected until after the competitive try-outs are completed. Rep and Girls Coaches that are chosen for an interview will be contacted by the Coaches Selection Committee and given their time to speak with the committee.    If you are unsure where your child might land, apply anyway and we won't hold you to that team if your child makes the team above.

Annual General Meeting

Our Annual General Meeting and Awards Presentation scheduled for Monday, May 25th at 7pm has been cancelled.  We will hold our AGM sometime before Aug. 27th at the Lambeth Community Centre or possibly as a virtual meeting. Once the date and forum is set, Association Members will be notified through email and the website.

Coaches please take a moment to consider nominating a player(s) on your team for an award.  The link for the award form is below:

Registration

Registration for the 2020-2021 will be opening soon.  A separate email will be sent soon explaining registration details.

Volunteers

If you plan to volunteer in any capacity, a Police Check is required. Please consider doing this now as there is often a back log in September. The link below will take you to the on-line application form. For individuals wanting to apply directly the London Police Station or an OPP office, please contact the appropriate Convenor for a letter.

London Police Services PVSC Checks

At the Executive level, we are looking to fill the Treasurer and PVSC (Police Check) Coordinator positions. We would like these individuals to start now, so that they can be trained and work along with our current volunteers.

Thanks again for your participation in Lambeth Minor Hockey.  Be safe and well Lancers, we look forward to seeing everyone back in the fall.

Sincerely,

Christa Fisher, President MHAL

Craig Cooper, Vice-President MHAL
