On behalf of the MHAL Executive, we have received and appreciate the feedback from the community around the decision to not allow name bars
this season on our jerseys.
Although we
have received feedback on both sides of the decision, the executive have revisited the original decison and have decided to
allow name bars on player jerseys with conditions.
The use of name bars will be a player/coach/parent choice. If you do not feel comfortable using name bars, you have the choice not to. MHAL continues to be mindful of all targeting concerns that can occur with the use of a last name on a jersey.
Both the MHAL as well as the OMHA have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to Harassment, Abuse and Bullying. To ensure the proper care occurs for our jerseys during the hockey season we will be requesting all players to sign a MHAL Jersey Agreement. Within this document it will clearly outline the expectations of jersey return at the end of the season. If the jersey is returned damaged, the cost of the replacement will be on the player. Name Bars should not cover sponsor bars (where applicable) and should be attached and removed with care. Light stitching is best to attach, do not use any adhesive.
As a reminder to the parent volunteers that are taking care of the team jerseys; please be sure that the jerseys are not left in the bags wet. Mold continues to be a big concern when jerseys are returned. Please wash and fully dry the jerseys often to ensure they are kept in great shape for multiple years of use. Please reference the MHAL Code of Conduct, as well as the OMHA Policy for more details on both Equipment and Harassment, Abuse and Bullying policies. The Executive has talked through this decision at length, and we hope that this reconsideration will address all concerns raised around name bar usage.
