Closing Remarks for 2022-2023 Hockey Season
Hi Lancer Families, we made it through another hockey season. A season that was as normal of a hockey season we have seen since before COVID. Thanks to you all for making this season a success. As we reflect on this past season, there is one thing that we can celebrate: our kids played uninterrupted hockey! This year our Lancers continued to make up for lost COVID time and were very competitive, winning tournaments, experiencing jamborees, half-ice games, Silversticks, and even sending multiple teams to their Provincial Championships! In the coming weeks, convenors will be able to give a full report of each divisions’ accomplishments, as playoffs and finals are still wrapping up.

We would not have had a season if it had not been for our outstanding group of coaches and volunteers who -despite having jobs like everyone else - were committed to ensuring all players had an enjoyable season despite any roadblocks teams faced. If you have not already done so, please thank your volunteers.

End of Season Housekeeping

Equipment

As per past practices, we would ask that one member from each team reach out to our Vice president of Operations, Shannon Conliffe to make arrangements for the collection of all the returning gear.

Equipment return includes goalie equipment, coaches’ equipment, first aid kits, and game jerseys with name bars removed and jerseys laundered. To avoid mold growth, please ensure the jerseys are completely dry before putting in the garment bags.

*As in prior years, volunteer refund cheques will be given to each Coach once all equipment has been returned and inspected.*

All equipment needs to be returned by the end of April. If anyone has equipment ready now, or this week, please contact Shannon directly.

Permission to Skate/Tryout Forms – Girls & Boys

For any OMHA players that require a permission to skate (PTS), please go here to request one.  For OMHA players U12 or above requiring a Non-registered passport form (NRP), they are coming soon. Stay Tuned, Rob Mugford will post to the website/social media when the forms are available. Girls will require their Permission to Tryout form to be signed by Jocelyn Aarts or Addy Coughlin - Girls Convenors if they are trying-out in another Centre.

Try-Outs – OWHA

As in past years, try-outs for MHAL OWHA teams for U11, U13, U15 & U18 will occur in May. Details have been provided on the MHAL website. U9 try-outs will be conducted following the start of the school year. Jocelyn or Addy will reach out directly to those groups who are affected by this.

Coaches Applications & Interviews

We are in the process of receiving OWHA Coaching applications, which are required by April 15. OMHA B team Competitive applications are required by May 15th. Local League and C team competitive Coaches are encouraged to complete the application; however, coaches will not be selected until after the competitive try-outs are completed. Click here to apply to be a coach for the 2023/24 season

Rep and Girls Coaches that are chosen for an interview will be contacted by the Coaches Selection Committee and given their time to speak with the committee. If you are unsure where your child might land, apply anyway and we won't hold you to that team if your child makes the team above.

Annual General Meeting

The annual general meeting of MHAL will be held in person on May 24, 2023 at the Lambeth United Church, 4268 Colonel Talbot Road starting at 7:00 pm.  Accordingly, we ask that anyone who wishes to attend the AGM to please register for the meeting in advance. Registration is easy and simple. Just complete the registration form on our website. Those who register will in turn be emailed the agenda for the meeting.

The annual general meeting is an opportunity to learn more about and participate in our association. Reports will be given on the activities and finances of the association for the 2022-23 season. Elections will also be held for 2022-23 executive positions. Members in good standing may vote on matters raised at the AGM, including the election of executive members. Each member is permitted one vote. MHAL Constitutional amendment motions must be submitted in writing to the executive committee. Such a proposal for amendment must be signed by 3 members of the association and may be made by members in good standing if submitted in the prescribed form in order to be confirmed by the Executive committee no later than the executive meeting prior to the AGM and allowing for the provision of the amendment to the membership at least 14 days before the date of the AGM and receive 2/3 majority vote at the AGM. The notice of motion form can be found by CLICKING HERE.

MHAL By-Law and policy amendment motions may be made by members in good standing if submitted in the prescribed form at least 14 days before (by May 10, 2023) the date of the AGM and endorsed by a majority vote at the AGM. The notice of motion form can be found by CLICKING HERE

Please note, higher level executive roles are always filled internally, if possible, as these roles typically require some prior board experience and historical knowledge from prior season.

2022/2023 MHAL Parent Survey

As the 2022/23 season comes to a close, please take a moment of your time to complete this survey for each team for which you have a player. Only one survey is required per family per player.

MHAL values your input and will use this information when planning and preparing for the next season. To complete the survey, CLICK HERE.

Next Season 2023-2024

Registration for our next season will be opening soon and will be announced on our main MHAL webpage. The link can be found by CLICKING HERE

U14 and above competitive non-body contact:

OMHA has approved the implementation of non-body contact teams for u14 and above beginning in 2023-2024. This means that MHAL, should we have enough residentially restricted interest in a competitive non-body contact team, can look to have a competitive non-body contact team at the U15 and u18 levels. We will be seeking interest in this over the coming weeks along with an intent to register option. If there are enough players for a try-out and team, we will approach OMHA on our centres options. More information on what the OMHA has approved can be found HERE

Volunteers

If you plan to volunteer with us in any capacity, a Police Check is required. Please consider doing this now as there is often a back log in September. The link below will take you to the on-line application form. For individuals wanting to apply directly the London Police Station or an OPP office, please contact the appropriate Convenor for a letter.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone back in the fall.

Sincerely,

MHAL Executive
