Access to Hockey Update
Hello fellow Lancers,

I want to take a moment to provide an update on the landscape of boys/coed minor hockey.

This past weekend, I attended an Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) workshop that was focused on delivery and access to hockey at all levels across Ontario.

A proposal has been put forth which would allow players to access higher levels of hockey much easier than today including the removal of residential boundary requirements for competitive hockey.

During the workshop, associations had the opportunity to provide feedback to Hockey Canada, OHF, and their member partners (i.e. OMHA, Alliance Hockey, etc.) on the proposal, potential benefits, and challenges of taking boys/co-ed hockey in this direction.

All of the feedback was documented and will be reviewed for consideration over the next few weeks.

OHF confirmed that associations will be informed before Christmas as to whether the proposal is accepted by their member partners and whether it will come into effect for the 2025-26 season.

We will be scheduling information sessions with each age group in January to present what this proposal means for our players, families, and MHAL.

Please note that players in OWHA programming are not impacted by the proposed change.
