Update on Minor Novice & Initiation Programming
Hello Initiation and Minor Novice Families!   We know you are eager to get your kids on the ice for the upcoming hockey season, and MHAL has been hard at work to make sure players are able to do so in a safe manner.

Jr. and Sr. Initiation (IP) Group (U7):

Given the current situation, we have made the difficult decision to delay the start of our Jr and Sr Initiation Program (IP). We know and appreciate that this decision is disappointing to many. However, in consideration of OHF, OMHA and Public Health Guidelines, we need to ensure that only those players who have the ability to be fully self-sufficient in terms of on and off-ice procedures are able to proceed with on-ice activities. Parents/spectators will not be allowed into the arena to watch/assist their young children on the ice after their skates are tied and they have been led to the ice.

Once we have a better grasp of how our older divisions acclimate to the current Covid-19 regulations and restrictions, we will re-examine this age group and determine if we can provide quality programming with enough volunteers to support this young group. Our hope is to have this division up and running in time for our second session in November if possible. Please continue to check the website for more details on registration. If you are interested in coaching or volunteering with this division during future sessions, please reach out to me via email. As stated before - all plans are fluid and could change at any time.

Minor Novice Group (U9):

We would like to extend a warm welcome to all 2013-born players and parents to a very different 2020/21 season.  Typically, this is the year where children get to experience travelling to the different Centers to play other like-skilled teams, and when they begin to focus on development and game play. Rest assured we are hopeful this can still happen before the end of the season, however for the time being we will be adhering to the Return to Play plan (please review the ‘Session One Registration’ post for further details). We are still looking to group children by skill level into 2-4 teams, however team structure will be largely dependent on registration numbers. It is important to register your child as soon as possible so that we can determine how teams will be formed.

Expect ice times to be anywhere from 4:30pm on weekdays to early mornings on weekends.  Ice times can be found on the MHAL Calendar in the upcoming weeks.

COACHES/TRAINERS: Like all other novice-and-above teams, each of our teams requires a full coaching staff (head coach, assistant coach, trainer, manager and on-ice practice support).  Thanks to those who have already expressed an interest in helping this year. Certification is required to coach. New this season is an additional Covid training course requirement.  If you haven’t already, and if you are interested in coaching or helping with any of the Novice or IP teams, please let me know ASAP via email.

Just a reminder that anyone wishing to participate with MHAL either "On-Ice" or "On-The-Bench" MUST COMPLETE the PVSC Procedure BEFORE being on ice with youth.

Please refer to MHAL’s FAQ (found on our homepage) for more information regarding the season

Parent Town Hall Discussion

MHAL will be providing a facilitated parent town hall discussion to provide additional return to play information as well as answer any questions you may have. This will be a virtual session through Microsoft Teams and will be on September 14, 2020 starting at 8PM.
