Closing Remarks for the 2016-2017 Local League Season
With the conclusion of another great Local League season, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the accomplishments of our five Local League teams. As a League we competed hard from start to finish.  All players were an integral part of the success of our Local League program this season.  All teams who won and lost together did so in good sport. Thank you to each family for your commitment to Lambeth Minor Hockey.

Throughout the season you made sacrifices of your time, money and energy to ensure you and your child would have a positive impact on their team, and for that I thank you. Your child represented more than just themselves and your family at practice, in games and on road trips; they represented Lambeth Minor Hockey, and they did it well!  As a League, we can look back with great pride on each of our Local League teams’ successes and growth this season.

Season Highlights

Novice LL – Chris Thompson

·         The season started strong with the team facing many tough and competitive teams.

·         Won the Frank Dymock Classic Tournament in Wallaceburg.

·         Had a very strong playoff run with an unfortunate outcome in the last 3 seconds of play.

·         Players grew as players, sportsman and a team.

Atom LL1  - Jeremy DeValk

·         Challenged the Lambeth Atom LL2 team at the Budweiser Gardens.

·         Competed in the “Sleep In” Port Stanley Tournament in November.

·         Entered the Alymer Local League Christmas Cup.

Atom LL2 – Chris Gee

·         Competed in three tournaments: Jake Marczenko Memorial Tournament in Dorchester, Gene Harrington                 Winter Ice Experience in Niagara Falls New York, and the Frank Dymock Classic tournament in Wallaceburg.

·         The most memorable tournament was winning the Winter Ice Experience in New York.

·         Won their B Division in Regular Season play.

·         The season was wrapped up with an exciting five game series with Atom LL1 for the Lancers Cup. The                   Lancers Cup series saw the team pulling together and playing their best hockey of the season.

Peewee LL1 – Don Roes

·         Placed second in the Southwest Tartan Tournament in November.

·         Showed great development throughout the season and proved to be a competitive force in regular season             play.

·         Competed in the Waterloo Fun Festival tournament in March.

Peewee LL2 – Mike Dale

·         Competed in the Woolwich Wildcat Weekend in November.

·         Made it to the finals in the Dairy Cup Challenge in January.

·         Made it through to the second round of the playoffs.

Please make sure you take the time to thank your coaches as all the great things highlighted above would not have happened without our volunteers.  I would like to thank all Coaches and volunteers for your dedication and support of the Lambeth Local League Program.

Volunteer Opportunities

My two year term as LL Convenor is completed and I am looking to pass the puck as I move onto another role within the MHAL Executive. Being the LL Convenor is a great position for someone looking to explore the administrative side of running and organizing a Hockey Program. It also gives you the opportunity to represent Lambeth at the League level, being involved with decisions and discussions regarding League policies.  I would be happy to assist the LL Convenor next season but will not be taking on the role in it’s entirety. This role must be filled for the season to happen. There are also other roles available on the Executive. Currently, there are only 2 LL parents on the Executive and this needs to change in order for the LL Program to improve and grow.  Nominations for Executive Positions are being taken now and new members will be voted in at the Annual General Meeting on May 15th.  If you are looking to volunteer next season, please contact me. Registration for the 2017-2018 season opens mid-April.  Further details will be posted on the MHAL website.

It has been a fantastic hockey season Lancers!  Enjoy the off season and if I don’t see you at Spring Hockey, Summer Hockey, the soccer field, or ball diamond, I will look forward to seeing you back at the rink in the Fall.

Best Regards,
