Opening Game Goes to Strathroy 3-2
Game #1 of the much anticipated Major Midget OMHA series between Strathroy Rockets and Lambeth Lancers was as advertised, a fast skating affair with the outcome in doubt right up to the final buzzer. Down 2-0 after the 2nd period, Liam Baughman scored Lambeth's first goal less than 3 minutes into the final period, the result of some hard work from linemates Kyle Mackey and Ryan Haruta.
With the score 2-1, the action went from end to end with both goalies making excellent saves. A power play goal by Brett Dalton with 2:29 left in the 3rd gave the Rockets a 3-1 lead but some hard work by Nick North and Brett Jankura led to Riley Gilmore's goal 20 seconds later which set up a 'nail biter' for the game's final 2 minutes. Caleb Millar in the Lancer goal stopped 23 of the 26 shots and made 2 'game savers' in the final period to keep the game close.
The series resumes Friday night in Lambeth with a 7:45 game time.
