JHT Consolation Champs
With the Bantam boys playing their nemesis, Port Stanley Sailors 2 in the first game of the John Henry Tournament, they were looking to finally steal a win away from a team that has not lost in regular season play. This would not be the case as Lambeth fell 6-1 despite solid play from goaltender Ryan Smeets. This loss sent the Bantam team to the Consolation Division.
In the second game of the tournament, the team played a much more solid and complete game in front of Robert Carter, who earned his second shutout of the season. The Lambeth beat Strathroy Red 2-0 to advance to the finals against Mt. Brydges Gold.
With the tournament scoring system, Mt Brydges was going into the final game with a 10-9 advantage. A win was the only option. A one all tie with 2:39 left in the game Hayden Laird made a perfect pass to Mitchell Wolfs who buried the puck to give the team the lead. It was a nerve racking final two minutes as Mt Brydges pulled their goaltender for the extra attacker. Ryan Smeets made a couple game savers to preserve the win and give the team the title of Consolation Champs.
Tournament goal scorers: Justin Buchanan, Evan Fretter, Nick Brown, Mitchell Wolfs and Nathyn Smeets (1st as a Lancer). Nick Brown added 2 assists.
The Lancers play two away games before the Nottawasga Tournament.
Happy New Years!
